Only a month after the release of the new iPad, rumor started to circulate that Apple has a new iPad mini in works in its manufacturing factories to compete with Amazon’s Kindle Fire. Foxconn’s, Apple product manufacturers, China based headquarters have been cause for the circulation of a rumor regarding Apple’s plans on releasing an iPad mini this fall. This iPad is expected to come with an initial shipment of 6 million units which means that Apple have something extra under their sleeve in regards with their plans for the iPad mini. It is also being rumored that Foxconn’s recent frantic hiring of several thousand new employees may be due to the combined pressure of the launch of the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini.

On Friday June 1 0, 2011, reports about iPad 2 were rift with news stating that some of the tablets were being recalled. It seems that the iPad 2 primarily working on Verizon’s 3G network had a certain issue with the unit of MEID numbers (mobile equipment identifier).

MEID is an identification number that Verizon uses on its tablets and smart phones registered with them. These numbers are unique and globally associated, and are assigned so that mobile phones on their network are easily identified. News has it that there were a few tablets that faced some issue on the Verizon network. Basically these tablets had MEID numbers that were duplicated. It seems an entire batch of iPad 2 had these duplicate numbers.

MEIDs that are unique consists of a string of numbers the first 8 being the regional code, the 24 bit manufacturer code and the along with this is the 24-bit serial number as assigned by the manufacturer. This is essential since it allows assigning wireless service to particular mobile devices as well as tablets that are circulating in the market. Therefore if there is any serial number that is duplicated it is only essential that it is recalled to avoid any further confusion to the network.

Apple is making sure that customers who have tables that are with faulty duplicate numbers are paid $50 worth of store credits since users of these tablets have no choice but to get their Verizon enabled gadgets exchanged.

This report about the iPad 2 being recalled was first noted on Thursday this month, when a few insiders reported that some shipments that were to move from China to the US were being re-routed. This news was enough to come to a conclusion that there was something wrong with the Verizon batch of iPad 2’s.

However, initial speculations about why the shipment was being re-routed were something different. Apparently it was said that this was because of a few errors from the shipper itself. People who were to receive their new iPad 2s had found out via Fed Ex tracking numbers that instead of their packages reaching them, they were being re-routed; which was also the reason why this particular news came to light.

By Friday it was firmly established that the reason for the recall of this particular batch of iPad 2 tablets was because of the MEID number mishap. The only way it seems Apple can find out if there is the MEID issue with a particular tablet is by checking the number and comparing it with a bunch of serial numbers that they have made a note of. These numbers are the ones that are duplicated.

Until Friday, Apple had not responded to the PC Mag who had sought a viable explanation to the recall.

Any information whether true or simply not true; any kind of rumors about the iPad these days is always hot news. The latest rumor now is that the new iPad, to be named “Surprise, surprise…” iPad 3 is all set to be released in the next few months. Most probably the iPad 3, according to the rumors circulating, will be released sometime during the holiday season. DigiTimes has further information about a certain component to be used in the iPad 3 and this is the LED Backlight Technology. It seems that companies Samsung and LG will be working in agreement to provide Apple with these components. Apart from these two companies a few other backlight module manufacturers have been contacted and given certification by the Cupertino Company.

The two main companies whom Apple has contracted for AMOLED display panels as well as a few other components are however LG and Samsung. Apple and Samsung over the past have been at legal loggerheads regarding patent issues have lead to a serious stain and hence no collaboration between them. While it seems that Apple and Samsung might take some time to reach to a friendly tie, till then Apple has gone ahead and certified Chimei Innolux’s, a Taiwan based company for their touch screen technology.

A few other reports state that the new iPad 3 that is all set to release very soon, will have a new version of the 9.7 inch LCD display, which is not far off as the previous one. Now that information of its release is at hand, a few other rumors are sure to make its way in the media. Although not all of it might be true, there could be some information that could be real. Proper information about the iPad 3’s specs is yet to be released or known through the rumor mill. Said to be released sometime soon next year, common sense says that it will release the same time the previous 2 x iPad versions were released.

The iPad 3 release date is just about what everyone whats to know about.  The iPad 2 was just released and there were no major upgrades from the first gen iPad.  Basically right now all we can do is speculate about the iPad 3 release date but its worth putting some thought in it to make an educated guess.

iPad 3 Release Date

Fact 1 – Apple would most likely want the iPad3 to be available prior to Christmas time.  If they release the iPad 3 before the holiday season, iPad sales will almost certainly be significantly higher than if Apple releases the third gen iPad after the holiday season.

Fact 2 – There has been some talk of the iPad 3 being released in September of 2011 but I really think that Apple would be pushing it releasing the third gen version of the iPad just 6 months after the iPad 2.  If they did so, this would set a bad precedent and leave potential buyers weary of making a purchase for fear that a new version will be released in only 6 months time.  If Apple, releases the iPad 3 in November, this would be 8 months after the release of the second generation iPad and the extra two months would be beneficial for the long run.
