Marvel vs DC Comics on Your iPad in the Ultimate Clash of the Comic Book Titans!

As a kid my love for comic books started with a sun bleached copy of DC’s Batman from a seaside newsagent. Having grown up on the standard UK comic fare, The Dandy and The Beano, to be confronted with a narrative that spanned more than 2 pages and high quality realism of artwork that imported comics provided I was instantly converted. Whilst Marvel Comic’s have already taken the AppStore by storm as an equal fan of DC it was extremely disappointing to find their work only available in limited numbers via ComiXology’s iPad app. Thankfully that has all changed with the launch of this application.

DC Comics

Now Spider-man, the X-men, Ironman and their Marvel kin share my iPad with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash and all of DC’s key characters. To quote Johnny Storm, “Flame On!”. In terms of set up, layout and interaction the DC Comics app shares the majority of its functionality with its Marvel Comic rival (Also reviewed in this section). Powered by the ComiXology network, you must sign up to fully access the comic store, you are able to browse the titles available by featured – the pick of the week’s titles, New, Popular and by Rating. Comics are priced at the standard US$1.99 price point, although there are several free options, which update regularly.

As a comic book addict it comes as a massive relief to finally have access to the DC Universe, thus for fans this app must take its place next to Marvel Comic on your iDevice.
