The iPad 2nd generation was recently released to the public on March 11, 2011, just over a week after Steve Jobs got up on stage to showcase the new iPad 2nd generation tablet. This new, upgraded version of the iPad is a little bit smaller in size than the original iPad but still has a 10 hour battery life which is pretty amazing. There are plenty of new features that Apple fanatics are excited about, but some people just can’t seem to stop talking about the iPad 3 release date.

The iPad 2nd generation is similar in many ways to the first gen ipad, they both have the same screen resolution (1024 x 768 at 132 ppi), they both do not support flash, and they both have the same mutitouch screen made famous by the Apple iPhone.

Some of the new features available only in the 2nd generation iPad are the two built in cameras (one front camera and one rear camera – this allows for the use of facetime and/or skype which is a huge plus), smaller dimensions, and the iPad 2 is lighter in weight. One thing is for sure, competition in the tablet market will only be getting more intense and apple will have to make the iPad3 an incredible device with several upgrades in both design and specs.

iPad 2nd Generation

Sales for the iPad 2 are through the roof, selling approximately half a million units within the first week. iPad 2nd GenerationPeople were actually waiting on line for days to make sure they got their hands on a a second generation iPad by camping out in front of Apple stores. As of March 23rd, people are still having a tough time finding the iPad 2 for sale at an Apple store.

If you do in fact manage to get your hands on one, the new iPad 2nd generation supports both Verizon and AT&T.
