If you are like me, you will be changing the default iPad wallpaper that is preloaded on the iPad almost immediately. You will actually most likely change the iPad wallpaper several times. There are so many wallpapers available on the Internet but due to the resolution of the iPad they do not all make great iPad wallpapers.

The iPad screen resolution is not bad at all at 1024 x 768 pixels. However, since you can flip the iPad around and the iPad changes from landscape to portrait you need a wallpaper that can handle both display sizes. In portrait mode the resolution of the iPad is reversed at a 768 x 1024 resolution. This is precisely the reason why you need a wallpaper that is versatile that will look good at a 1024×768 display and also a 768×1024 display size.

In order to make the wallpaper iPad compatible you need to load up an image that is a perfect square, 1024 x 1024. An image that is 1024 x 1024 pixels is the perfect iPad wallpaper. When you load your iPad compatible wallpaper just remember that portions of the image will be cut off both in landscape and portrait mode. Basically the key to creating the best iPad wallpaper is to choose an image that is focused around the 768×768 portion of the image. An iPad wallpaper sized correctly as described above will result in an image that will look good when the iPad is being held both in portrait and landscape mode.
